Why Is The Tower Closed?
The Compton Hill Water Tower has been gracing the Saint Louis Skyline since 1898. From the beginning people flocked to climb the Tower and enjoy an unparalleled 360 degree view of Saint Louis. The Saint Louis weather has taken a toll on the Tower and since the winter of 2016 there have been pieces falling off the Tower. Each year it gets worst and we can lose pieces the size of pebbles or the size of boulders. Just this spring there was a large chunk right in front of the front door. Because of the falling debris it is now unsafe to open the Tower. The cost of the needed historic restoration of the Tower will be high. The Saint Louis Water Division has started to put together a plan to fix the Tower. The WTPPS is working to raise the money to do the needed repairs.
